Jan 2002

Hello:

Another report from Buffalo, and an update on the planning for the 2003 reunion.

First we want to offer our sincerest condolences to Neil Merkling on the recent sudden death of his son.

Also since we last met, 15 years ago, we know the following members of our class are no longer with us: Jean Hoffman, John Huber, Chris Praller, James Diebold and Joyce Oswald, and we hope they have been granted lasting peace

Bob Lunz suggested that it might be nice if we, as a group, would go to the wake of anyone associated with our class. We all agreed and a telephone list was established. If there is anyone else who would like to participate let me know and I will get your name and phone added to the list.

The January planning meeting was held on the 15th at the Donavan Post off Genesee St. at 7:00 PM. Again it was a miserable night to be out with wet snow falling and the temperature about 30 degrees or so (we are gonna have to move these meetings to Honolulu or something, but the weather WILL be getting nicer soon). When I got there Jan Manquen and Bob Lunz were already there and Judy Herrscher arrived some minutes after I did (she said she would just as soon stayed home - and I agreed with her). There was a meeting scheduled in the main hall so we moved to a side room where our discussions continued. About 20 minutes later Ronnie Meier came in followed a little later by Jerry Schomeck

There was some discussion about the Christmas storm, but thankfully everyone came through it more or less intact. We compared notes on addresses and some changes were made to the list that was made for the last get together. I still cannot verify some addresses but I will send this out and see what letters come back as undeliverable. This letter /report/ will be mailed to just about everybody since we are starting to make definite plans and want to give as many people as possible input into those plans. The option for dinner/get together was proposed as anything from a potluck in the church basement (not really - but an option) to the Ramada Renaissance, or someplace similar. If a hotel is chosen it might be possible to arrange for a courtesy room and even some sort of room rate for the out of town people.

The proposed dates are:

June 14th or 21st
July 05th or12th 2003

So that you don't have to hunt for a calendar those are all Saturdays. Obviously Jul 05 is the day after the holiday but it was chosen because everyone should have a long weekend making travel here a little easier.

As I said above some of our classmates are no longer with us and in that vein I would ask that everyone respond to this letter so that we can have a list and current addresses. Please contact me either by US mail (I have included a mailing label so that all you have to do is put it on an envelope/postcard and send it back to me) by email to joeychips@compuserve.com or by telephone (716) 892 9020 # 3. I am using addresses that are in some cases 15 years old and if this letter reaches anyone not of the MHR class of 1953 would you please contact me so that I may update my name/address list.

The next meeting is scheduled for Mar 12th again at the Donavan Post 7:00 +/- and everybody is welcome. We do have a good time and it is nice to see everybody again.

Joe
